Description

A Kingdom on the Brink

Fear grips the land as savage hordes of goblins, orcs and worse sweep across the frontier. Those fortunate enough to survive speak of impossible sights and unsettling behavior – as though the invaders are driven by something beyond normal conquest or bloodlust.

Conscripted into service by a desperate king, players find themselves posted to the remote fortress of Stonewatch Keep – a proud but weathered bastion on the front lines of the war. Untested and unprepared, they must quickly learn to fight and survive, though nothing can truly prepare them for what they will face as duty unravels into mystery and danger.

Ancient ruins.

Terrifying catacombs.

Forgotten temples.

Uneasy alliances.

As each mystery is unraveled, another emerges, drawing the party deeper into a conspiracy thousands of years in the making – orchestrated by a mysterious cult and its enigmatic leader – the Hollow Prince.

The Cursed Heir is a dark fantasy adventure featuring political intrigue, ancient mysteries, supernatural horror, difficult choices, and moments of heroism. While there are lighter moments and memorable personalities, the campaign embraces mature themes and a world where victories are hard-earned.

Perfect for new or experienced players and Dungeon Masters alike, every chapter includes extensive GM guidance, behind-the-scenes story explanations, NPC summaries, and campaign insights to make running the adventure both rewarding and approachable.

Combat, exploration, investigation, and roleplaying mechanics are introduced gradually across the opening act (Chapters 1-4), while extensive GM guidance helps Dungeon Masters confidently run each session. As the adventure (and the danger) progresses, both the characters and the players grow in confidence together, culminating in an epic, high-stakes campaign that rewards teamwork, creativity, and thoughtful decision-making.

In addition to the adventure itself, GMs are provided an supplementary document containing a comprehensive collection of:

  • Custom monsters and NPCs
  • Original magic item descriptions
  • Merchant inventories and Keep stores
  • Detailed maps
  • GM reference material
  • Story handouts and in-world documents

Echoes of the Forge

Return to the ruined halls of Ironspire, a once-legendary dwarven forge-hall whose destruction left behind unanswered questions, buried secrets, and a legacy of fire beneath the stone.

In this optional side quest, the party is drawn back to the ruins of Ironspire Hall after discovering a mysterious dwarven relic. What begins as a salvage mission soon becomes a dangerous descent into the remains of an ancient magical-industrial catastrophe, where warped chambers, lost forgecraft, elemental threats, and lingering echoes of the past reveal the true scale of Ironspire’s fall.

Success may bring more than treasure. The recovery of lost forge technology could strengthen Stonewatch Keep’s war effort and allow its dwarven forgemaster to craft extraordinary rewards for the heroes. But the deeper the party goes, the more they risk awakening what still burns in the deeps of Ironspire.

This full-length add-on mission spans over 50 pages and includes a multi-level dungeon, GM guidance, player-facing descriptions, maps, new magic items, custom monsters, optional encounter resolutions, and scalable rewards tied to the party’s discoveries. It is designed to expand the world of The Cursed Heir while giving players a dangerous, self-contained expedition into one of the region’s most mysterious and tragic ruins.

A Dungeons & Dragons campaign is a connected series of adventures played over multiple sessions, where the same group of characters explores an ongoing story, faces increasingly dangerous challenges, and grows more powerful over time. Unlike a one-shot adventure designed to be completed in a single sitting, a campaign can unfold over weeks, months, or even years of play.

The Cursed Heir is a complete, story-driven fantasy campaign spanning 10 interconnected chapters. Players begin as inexperienced conscripts stationed at a remote frontier keep and gradually become embroiled in a much larger conflict involving ancient mysteries, dangerous enemies, political intrigue, and a prophecy that threatens the fate of the realm.

No previous campaign experience is required, making it especially well suited to groups looking to begin their first long-form Dungeons & Dragons adventure.

The Cursed Heir is a complete adventure campaign, but it assumes your group has access to the core Dungeons & Dragons 5e rules. For the best experience, the Dungeon Master should have access to the Player’s Handbook, Dungeon Master’s Guide, and Monster Manual, or equivalent official online rules and resources.

Players generally only need access to the Player’s Handbook for character creation, classes, spells, equipment, and the rules of play.

The campaign provides its own story, encounters, maps, original NPC and monster stat blocks, magic items, handouts, and GM guidance. You won’t need to purchase additional adventures or campaign supplements to complete the story.

Running your first fantasy roleplaying campaign can seem daunting, but you don’t need to master everything before you begin. Start by becoming familiar with the basic game rules, reading through the opening chapter of your adventure, understanding the important characters and encounters, and helping your players create their characters. From there, focus on preparing one session at a time rather than trying to memorize an entire campaign.

The Cursed Heir was designed with new Dungeon Masters (DMs) in mind. Each chapter includes a detailed Synopsis explaining what is happening behind the scenes, important characters and factions, narrative implications, and practical guidance for running the adventure. The campaign begins with relatively straightforward situations before gradually introducing greater complexity, giving both new players and GMs an opportunity to learn as the adventure grows.

Most importantly, don’t worry about running everything perfectly. Know the basics, understand where the story is headed, and let the rest develop around the table.

Yes. Every chapter includes extensive GM guidance, behind-the-scenes story, explanations, pacing advice, important NPC summaries, and long-term narrative notes, while also providing player-facing descriptions to use at the GM’s discretion. It’s all designed to make running the adventure straightforward and fun – even if it’s your first campaign.

The Cursed Heir is designed to be enjoyed by groups of all experience levels, but it is especially well suited to new and first-time players. The campaign begins with characters who are just as inexperienced as the players controlling them, allowing everyone to learn the game naturally as the story unfolds.

Combat, exploration, investigation, and roleplaying mechanics are introduced gradually across the opening act (Chapters 1-4), while extensive GM guidance helps Dungeon Masters confidently run each session. As the adventure progresses, both the characters and the players grow in confidence together, culminating in an epic, high-stakes campaign that rewards teamwork, creativity, and thoughtful decision-making.

The realm stands on the brink of collapse. Savage hordes sweep across the frontier, overwhelming the King’s forces and massacring civilians and townsfolk. Those fortunate enough to survive speak of impossible sights and unsettling behavior – as if the invaders are driven by something beyond conquest or bloodlust.

Players begin as ordinary conscripts – drafted into the war and marched to a remote, weathered fortress on the front lines of the war. What begins as straightforward military garrison duty gradually unfolds into something far more sinister. As they investigate abandoned settlements, delve into forgotten ruins, forge uneasy alliances, and confront ancient horrors, they begin to discover that the war is only a veil for a far greater threat.

Soon, the true enemy comes into focus: a dark and mysterious cult led by an enigmatic figure known only as the Hollow Prince. Wielding an ancient amulet of terrifying power, he acts towards the fulfillment of prophecy that threatens not merely the kingdom, but perhaps the fate of the world itself.

The Cursed Heir is a story of danger, mystery, political intrigue and heroic adventure, where every revelation uncovers another layer of a millennia-old conspiracy. As the truth behind the Hollow Prince, the prophecy, and the amulet slowly comes to light, the party must decide whom to trust – and whether destiny is something to be fulfilled… or defied.

The Cursed Heir is designed as a full-length, multi-session campaign spanning ten story-driven chapters. Depending on your group’s pace and how much optional content is explored, expect 20-30+ hours of gameplay.

But rather than one massive, continuous slog, this campaign is structured for multi-session play. Each of the 10 chapters is effectively its own “episode” that propels players through a unique and challenging environment while advancing the larger, overarching narrative.

The Cursed Heir is a dark fantasy adventure featuring political intrigue, ancient mysteries, supernatural horror, difficult choices, and moments of heroism. While there are lighter moments and memorable personalities, the campaign embraces mature themes of corruption, betrayal and tragedy in a gritty world where victories are hard-earned.

The campaign begins at Level 1, allowing players to grow naturally from inexperienced conscripts into legendary heroes over the course of the adventure.

Yes. While The Cursed Heir follows a carefully crafted overarching story, the players’ decisions influence how that story unfolds. Throughout the campaign, choices can affect relationships with important NPCs and factions, determine optional rewards and allies, unlock additional quests, and shape how the world responds to the party’s actions.

Like many published adventure campaigns, the central narrative remains focused on delivering a cohesive epic story. However, how the party reaches that conclusion – and the allies, enemies, and consequences they accumulate along the way – is very much shaped by their decisions.
